Share

A two-day series of meetings took place in Riga, bringing together SAPRA members and partners from several countries, including representatives from Theon Sensors (Greece) and Harder Digital. Discussions were held both in person and online, focusing on current trends in the defense industry, opportunities for technological cooperation, and available public support mechanisms for innovation projects.

The program began with a visit to SAPRA’s laboratory in Berģi, where participants explored ongoing developments and discussed future project directions. The second day continued at the Baltic Photonics premises in Riga, where the group was joined by Professor Jurijs Dehtjars from Riga Technical University’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The professor presented key innovation projects involving RTU researchers, lecturers, and students, highlighting the use of artificial intelligence in emerging technologies. A lively discussion followed between the RTU representative and Harder Digital participants, leading to an agreement for a follow-up meeting on May 16 to conduct simulation tests at RTU’s labs.

Representatives of SIA “Leveria” introduced funding opportunities available from the Latvian state budget to support projects led by SAPRA members. During the presentation, the group reviewed the anticipated number of project applications, required partnership structures, co-financing volumes, and submission timelines. Theon Sensors shared their practical experience with similar initiatives in Greece and proposed several potential industrial partners.

Later in the day, participants connected virtually with representatives of Scytalys, who presented the company’s profile and expressed interest in joining SAPRA. Following the introduction and open discussion, SAPRA Chairman Edgars Zandmanis noted the value that Scytalys could bring to the network. It was agreed that the company would inform its management about the meeting and consider participating in the upcoming Drone Summit in Riga on May 28.

The meetings concluded with an informal dinner, providing an opportunity to continue the exchange of ideas in a relaxed setting.
